About Me:
Thanks for visiting!
So what is most salient here? I suppose continual growth and development and openness to change is the most important thing about me. I am firm believer that life is both an inward and an outward journey and that this rythmn of inhale and exhale keeps us alive, engaged, interesting and effective.
On my inward journey, I am focused on Advaita Vedantism. I meditate regularly and follow a path of Integral Yoga as descributed by Sri Aurobindo. I have been deeply influenced by the thinkers I mention below as well as many others.
I have found Ken Wilber's work to be very helpful. Not without faults, his work towards integral understanding seems to be very much on the right track.
In my outward joureny, I am very concerned about issues of poverty and social justice. I serve on the Board of a local organization that helps those on the financial margins. I also have interests in deep ecology but that is growing edge for me.
I believe that we need community to become fully ourselves and that it requires a concerted commitment to remain with people through thick and thin to develop as we should. Meaning often arises in the context of these relationships. I am a Unitarian Universalists by affiliation and my church is one important aspect of my community. My workplace is another and the Seattle Integral Community is becoming another node for me.
By day I am an estate planning lawyer. I tend to work with high net worth families and am doing a great deal of work around how estate planning can foster healthy, rather than unhealthy, relationships to wealth through structural intervention and a focus on holistic lawyering. (Stay tuned - I may add some writings on this topic to my pages.)
I am a husband of a wonderful woman. My wife, Marcia, is a psychologist. We have been married 30 years. We have two terrific children. Our daughter is 15 and our son is 23.
Please feel free to contact me if anything on this page strikes your fancy.
Namaste,
Matt
